This page contains information about Nephrology Advanced Training in Australia and New Zealand. It includes links to entry and program requirements, and the recently published Nephrology Advanced Training and Professional Qualities Curricula.

Training requirements – Nephrology
This link details the training requirments for Advanced Training in Nephrology.  Remember that requirments change from year-to-year, so consult the Advanced Training Handbook relevant to your year and contact the RACP directly for details.

Important dates for each year are outlined in the Handbook. Don’t forget to hand in your reports on time!

Journals of the American Society of Nephrology
These include JASN, CJASN, and NephSAP. These journals are essential reading for Nephrology trainees. As an Australian trainee, you’re entitled to cheap electronic access to the ASN journals by becoming a corresponding member of ASN

Kidney International
The official journal of the International Society of Nephrology. Again, as a trainee you’re entitled to a discount membership of ISN, which includes a free subscription to KI

Nature Clinical Practice Nephrology
This is included with ISN membership. It’s a good way to keep up with recent developments in Nephrology

The official journal of the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology. This is Australia’s “local” Nephrology journal. If you’re a member of the ANZSN (which you probably should be), you’ll have free access to this journal


Australian and New Zealand Society Of Nephrology
All Advanced Trainees are encouraged to become members of ANZSN

The Transplantation Society of Australia and New Zealand

American Society of Nephrology
Membership of ASN gives you access to the ASN journals. It’s also inexpensive as an Australian trainee

International Society of Nephrology
ISN membership only costs US$50 for trainees, and includes a free subscription to Kidney International and Nature Clinical Practice Nephrology

Hypertension, Dialysis and Clinical Nephrology
This is a really useful general nephrology site. It contains news, downloadable presentations, links to key journal articles and much more

Renal Biopsy Online Learning Program 
This excellent website contains on-line modules that provide training in the theoretical aspects of performing renal biopsies.  These are a fantastic introduction for new trainees and a good refresher for others.

Fistula First / Atlas of Vascular Access
The Fistula First website contains information on best practices, and tools and resources which you can use to help you increase your AV fistula rates. One particularly useful resource is the Atlas of Vascular Access which is a valuable aid to understand the common problems related to haemodialysis access.
